Yep .... I think Zork was the first .... "you are standing in front of a mailbox >>>" ..... and ActaVision followed the text game with several other Zorks on CDs. I think the last and best one was Zork Nemesis.
But the very first game - played on mainframes by programmers was Hangman. Pong was the first offered in public places - like bars.
I had some Apple games - I remember one called Sea Stalker .. it went something like this ..
You yell at Tip ... Tip yells at you. You punch Tip ... Tip punches you. You swear at Tip ... Tip doesn't allow bad words ..
